awake the dreary day

today two of my songs have become available on all major streaming services. they are called 'nocturne' and 'in two'. links are below.

every day, thousands of songs appear on these services. it's a rowdy and restive crowd. many sharp elbows.

brassy megastars papped under blinding lights and industry fanfare. circuit bands with fingers calloused from the cheerful, pungent camaraderie of pub back rooms. post-serial alchemists, fractal conceptualists, transfiguring sound and its absence. heavy metal, taxonomised into as many subtypes as listeners. grime that's never as good as when it's played live. punk that's better. the underappreciated. the overappreciated. every type of huckster imaginable, tweaking algorithms to outmuscle coltrane and simone and dylan. school choirs.

brace yourself against the waters because there are diamonds washing down.

ai muzak. whispery folk covers fluttering their lashes at car advertisers. earnest jazz students emerging from their woodsheds, high on superlocrians. dilettantes, seat sniffers, tiktok kids. utter shit. brilliance.

i suppose there's worse company to be in. you join the queue. you wait your turn.
